Shania Twain is one of the most famous singers. Over the course of her career, she has sold more than 100 million records, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. But one of her biggest successes in life is losing more than 40 pounds. Today, we will talk about the Shania Twain weight loss journey.

Let’s see how the country music artist managed to change her body. Known as the Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain has changed her lifestyle and diet to include more greens, lentils, and nuts. But there is more than just that. Let’s take a look.

Get To Know Shania

Born Eilleen Regina Shania Twain in August 1965, she is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actress. She is the best female artist in country music history. While she was one of the most famous artists in the 90s, she had to fight to get there.

Born in Windsor, Ontario, to Sharon Morison and Clarence Edwards, she has two sisters. Her sisters are Jill Ann and Carrie Ann. Her parents divorced when she was only two years old. Then, her mother moved to Timmins, Ontario with Shania and her sisters.

There, she got married to Jerry Twain, an Ojibwa from the nearby Mattagami First Nation, and they had a son Mark Twain. Jerry adopted the girls. Fun fact: because of Shania’s connection to Jerry, many media outlets have incorrectly made her of Ojibwe descent.

Speaking about her stepfather, she has said, “My father Jerry went out of his way to raise three daughters that weren’t even his. For me to acknowledge another man as my father, a man who was never there for me as a father, who wasn’t the one who struggled every day to put food on our table, would have hurt him terribly. We were a family. Step-father, step-brothers, we never used that vocabulary in our home. To have referred to him as my step-father would have been the worst slap across the face to him”.

Speaking of her education, she graduated from Timmins High in June 1983 and immediately began her music career. She was approached by a cover band led by Diane Chase, called Flirt. Shania toured all over Ontario with them and took singing lessons from coach Ian Garrett. She would clean his house for payment.

In November 1987, her mother and stepfather died in a car accident. She moved back to Timmins to take care of her younger siblings. Once they moved out on their own, in 1993, she assembled a demo tape and her manager set up a showcase for her. She caught the attention of a few labels, including Mercury Nashville Records.

During this period, she changed her name to Shania, which many speculate is the Ojibwa word meaning “on my way”.

Her self-titled debut album was released in April 1993 in North America and helped her gain an audience outside Canada. Her second album, The Woman in Me was released in February 1995. Eight of the 12 tracks were released as singles. One of the singles, Any Man of Mine, reached Number 1 on the Billboard Country Chart.

Shania achieved her biggest success with the album Come on Over, released in 1997. This album established her as a crossover singer. Again, she released most of the songs, 12 of 16, as singles.

In 2004, she went on a hiatus. Years later, she revealed that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease and dysphonia, which weakened her singing voice.

Over the course of her career, Shania has won the Grammy Award two times. She has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame and Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Why Did She Lose Weight?

During the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony, singer Shania Twain showed her body figure in a black bodysuit. Fans of the country singer immediately began speculating about her weight loss. The drastic change happened after years of struggling with body dysmorphia. It is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are unnoticeable to others.

The singer dropped so much weight, that her friends started to become concerned. A source close to the singer, said, “Shania’s always been fixated on her body image, so there’s real fear she’s developed bad habits from trying to achieve unrealistic goals”.

According to the physician, “She needs to put some healthy weight back on or risk facing a host of health dangers”

But her friends say that the main reason for dropping several pounds is her willingness to continue performing in the entertainment world.

One friend of hers revealed, “She’s competing on the road with the Taylor Swifts and Beyonces of the world as well as a new crop of young country cuties. She wants to look her best, but she’s taken it too far. Even her own doctors tell her such a dramatic drop in weight can trigger all sorts of health problems.
