Why Did He Want To Lose Weight?

There is a heartbreaking reason why British television personality and comedian Matt Lucas wanted to lose weight. Yes, he wanted to live healthier, but there is some backstory to it.

When he joined the Mid Point podcast to talk about the experience, he said, “My dad died when he was 52, very suddenly. His dad died, I think at 56, so I was looking at the law of averages here. I was very big and I was getting bigger in the pandemic actually. Sort of not being very active, not really going out, not seeing people, just eating a lot of roast potatoes”.

Then, he continued, saying, “I was so big I couldn’t really fit on the screen anymore. I was relieved to have lost some weight”.

In the podcast, he revealed that he cut down on his eating habits, and began taking regular walks. More on his diet and workout routine later on.

He says his weight loss was not as impressive as it seems. Matt explained, “I’m not skinny by any means. I’ve just lost some weight. I’ve gone from maybe an XXL, sometimes XXXL, down to a medium”.

During the podcast, he also said he is not interested in drugs or smoking, and hardly ever drinks. The food was his big problem. But we can understand it. When you are surrounded by cakes and cookies, it is hard to maintain a healthy weight.

Yet, despite his decision to cut back on food, he is not depriving himself of not-so-guilty pleasures. He says, “I just don’t eat as much. But I eat sweets still”.

This is not the first time the British TV personality to experience weight loss. He had a health scare back in 2009. Speaking to the Guardian, he said, “I’ve lost a couple of stone, and I need to lose some more. It all came off in two months. My doctor said if I wasn’t careful I’d end up with self-inflicted diabetes”.

At the time, he was told to reduce his daily calorie intake to 1,500 per day. Fun fact: Matt shared that he has been thin-shimmed.

In April 2022, he tweeted, “Shout out to the lady who stopped me at football today to ask me why I’ve lost weight and to inform me I look a lot older. For the first time in my life, I think I’ve just been thin-shamed”.

How Did He Shed Some Pounds?

Now let’s talk about comedian Matt Lucas’s weight loss diet. How did he manage to shed some pounds? When it comes to his weight loss journey, Matt says he followed a simple routine, which included walking more and cutting down on bad eating habits.

He says, “I like to walk. I live not far from a canal and I love when the weather’s nice, going for long walks by the canal, either with a friend or on my own”.

Speaking on his eating habits, he says he cut down on it. Yet, he doesn’t believe in depriving yourself of the food you love. Instead, Matt’s advice is to not eat as much.

Matt Lucas Workout Routine

No weight loss journey can be successful without adding some exercise along the way. In one social media video, Matt revealed that he lives with a personal trainer.

In the video, he said, “My housemate Jamie is a personal trainer extraordinaire”. That would be Jamie Barnard, who runs Positive Mind Personal Training.”

It is Jamie who encourages Matt to change his lifestyle to be healthy and had a huge positive impact on his mental health. Jamie says, “It has been scientifically proven that physical exercise benefits our state of mind, reduces anxiety, stress, elevates mood, and improves self-esteem”.

His advice is quite simple, “If you are stressed due to external pressures or like me you struggle with mental illness I am here to help you commit to making the change to improve your all round well-being”.

Nowadays, Matt is trying to add some physical exercise to his daily routine as much as he can. His main thing is walking more, but he also goes to the gym for some work.

Leaving Bake Off

One of the biggest challenges for Matt was to be around cakes and sweets and stay away from them. Well, that might not be the case anymore.

In December 2022, he announced his departure from the series on Twitter. He said he couldn’t juggle his other commitments anymore, including an appearance in the upcoming reboot of the British TV show Fantasy Football League.
